A scripture that drives:
Isaish 58:10-12
"Feed the hungry, and help those in trouble. Then your light will shine out from the darkness, and the darkness around you will be as bright as noon. The Lord will guide you continually, giving you water when you are dry and restoring your strength. You will be like a well-watered garden, like an ever-flowing spring. Some of you will rebuild the deserted ruins of your cities. Then you will be known as a rebuilder of walls and a restorer of homes."
A scripture that commands:
Matthew 28:18-20
"Jesus came and told his disciples, 'I have been given all authority in heaven and on earth. Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Teach
these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be
sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.'”
A scripture with an approach:
Acts 1:8 (NIV)
"But you
will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be
my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the
ends of the earth."
Jerusalem (Local)
We believe that local missions play a huge role in strengthening not just a local body of believers, but also the community that God has placed that body of believers in. In a church, God has called people from an untold number of places, from many different heritages, backrounds, and lifestyles, all to join in His work in a certain area-He has each one of our lives intersecting in one place, all at the same time. It's a neat thought to ponder! Why has he called specifically
us, at
this time, to
this area? He has ordained each one of us, and our characteristics, and our desires, and our talents, and our willing hearts to accomplish His work in the North Glen Community. We will continue to serve our community and the families within it to the best of our abilities-for Jesus said that the second most commandment was to love your neighbors as yourself, preceded only by loving God with all our heart, soul, mind and strength. That is what we have been called to do. And through that we hope to pass along the wonderful hope, strength, love and peace of Jesus Christ into the homes that surround us.
Judea (Regional)
As our "Judea", North Glen supports a mission project in one of the most poorest areas in the United States. Garrett, located in Floyd county Kentucky, home to nearly 43,000 residents, has a poverty ratio of nearly 40%, compared to the national average of 11%. We've had the wonderful privalege of working side by side with God's Helping Hands, directed by Melissa Gibson, a local missionary. During our several trips to Garrett, we've supplied the mission with food, supplies, and other donations, hosted a Vacation Bible School, provided assistance and maintainance on people homes, and supplies over 75 children with Christmas gifs. We plan on continuing to develop our relationships with the people there, as well as local churches, to expand God's Kingdom throughout Eastern Kentucky.
